At Deep Rising, we believe that the Common Heritage of Humankind must be respected and preserved for future generations. The deep seabed in the High Seas belongs to all of humanity, and is not to be claimed or exploited for the benefit of a few. It is our shared responsibility to protect this invaluable resource, not only for ourselves but for those who will follow us.
We reject the notion that our vision of a sustainable, green future should be defined by maintaining the status quo that serves the interests of global oil, gas, and mining corporations. True sustainability requires that we break free from the exploitation of rare and finite resources and embrace the abundant, renewable resources that nature has already provided.
We believe the planet’s resources should be seen as a global commons — a shared legacy — and not a commodity to be extracted for short-term profit. It is time to honor the wisdom of Indigenous worldviews, which recognize that resources cannot be owned, but are entrusted to us to protect and care for, ensuring the well-being of future generations.
Now is the time to make peace with nature. We must recognize that humanity is an intrinsic part of the Earth’s ecosystem. To harm the planet is to harm ourselves, and we cannot afford to ignore the interconnectedness of all life.
We believe in a new paradigm of decentralized, transparent governance — one that removes the power from the hands of a few and ensures that decisions about our shared future are made by and for all of humanity. It is time to act, with urgency, integrity, and respect for the planet that sustains us all.
